Protect Your Family from Lead
Although there is no cure for lead poisoning, it can can be prevented. Too many kids are poisoned each year from lead paint. Steps can be taken to reduce the risk of childhood lead poisoning.
Do the following to protect your family from lead:
- Clean floors, window sills and other surfaces regularly
- Wash children's hands, bottles, pacifiers, and toys often
- Make sure children eat a healthy, nutritious diet. A diet with enough iron and calcium, Vitamin C, zinc, and protein can reduce the level of lead poisoning by reducing lead absorption
- Wipe off shoes before entering house
- Inspect and maintain all painted surfaces to prevent paint deterioration
- Address water damage quickly and completely
- Keep your home clean and dust-free
- Clean around painted areas where friction can generate dust, such as doors, windows, and drawers. Wipe these areas with a wet sponge or rag to remove paint chips or dust
- Cover bare soil in the yard with grass or six inches of mulch
- Get a lead inspection or risk assessment for your property
